Far South Community Development Corporation's (Far South CDC) Renovation Program provides high-quality renovations to low-to-moderate communities on Chicago's far south side and south suburban Cook County.
Accessory Dwelling Units
An accessory dwelling unit (ADU), also known as a backyard house, guest house, or casita, is a small home that can be built on the same lot alongside another, larger single-family home, or as a part of a community development. They are self-sufficient dwellings and contain a kitchen, a living area, bathroom facilities, and a bedroom. ADUs can be used in several ways, including long-term rental unit(s), vacation rental, aging in place, art studio/home office, micro-communities and developments, and affordable living.
Commercial Facade Enhancements
The Commercial Façade Enhancement Program is designed to encourage investment and development within SSA#45 business district. The grants may be used for exterior improvements such as interior design and/or signage, awnings, doors, exterior lighting, and building masonry.
Home Repairs & Accessibility Program
Far South CDC assists low-income and very low-income homeowners with health, safety, and energy-efficiency home repairs and accessibility improvements.
Modular Homes (New Construction)
Inspired by the legendary cyclist "Major" Marshall W. Taylor (MWT), MWT Homes are modular-style infill homes, constructed by Kinexx Modular Construction, surrounding the 2.5-mile MWT Bike Trail. MWT Homes seek to develop newly constructed homes on vacant and abandoned residential properties, which will increase homeownership, close the racial wealth inequities, and provide contracting opportunities for BIPOC-led contractors. Far South CDC's goal is to develop modular homes near public amenities (i.e. parks, recreation, shopping plazas, bike trails), public institutions (i.e. libraries, public schools), and public transit.
Multi-Family Renovations
Far South CDC provides high-quality multi-family renovations (2+ units or more) of vacant properties to sell and lease to income-eligible recipients. These recipients are either owner-occupants or tenants.
Single-Family Renovations
The Single-Family Renovation program provides high-quality renovations at an affordable purchase price to income-eligible potential homebuyers.
Renovations are part of Far South Community Development Corporation's (Far South CDC) BCBI goal of redeveloping existing and vacant properties to bring affordable and high-quality housing and commercial spaces to low-to-moderate income neighborhoods.
