Far South Community Development Corporation (Far South CDC) is embarking on a bold “Bringing Communities Back Initiative” (BCBI) to repurpose nearly 1 million square feet of blighted community areas into thriving community anchors that will spur economic growth and repopulate communities in Chicago’s far south side that have experienced decades of chronic disinvestment.
This initiative will focus on three goals:

Continuing from POP! Heights Park, Far South CDC will allocate a $500,000 grant to build another public outdoor plaza along the South Halsted Corridor with similar amenities such as a tennis court, open space, water features, a kid's play area, community gardens, and murals.
$500,000 in a grant for the study and implementation of a local shuttle bus that will provide transit to major job centers and public transit nodes between 95th Street to the immediate south suburban areas and residential areas, including BCBI multi-family projects.
$1 million in grants to support the implementation of historic wayfinding signage, murals, and art installations along the Major Taylor Bike Trail between 81st Street to 134th Street highlighting the impact of local African American Heritage, such as Jackie Robinson, Major Taylor, Harriet Tubman, and more!
