IHDA's Home Accessibility Program (HAP)

HAP @ Far South CDC

Far South Community Development Corporation (Far South CDC) was awarded the Home Accessibility Program grant to provide access improvements for seniors and persons with physical disabilities. Funded by the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA), each recipient will be awarded up to $25,000 forgivable loan (grant that draws down over a 60-month period that the owner will not have to pay back) to install accessible improvements, such as (without limitation) grab bars, wheelchair ramp and rails, widening of doors for wheelchair passage, and other improvements that will be approved by IHDA. Applicants will not be funded directly. All funds and construction will be managed by Far South CDC.


Applicants will be selected on a first-come-first-serve basis. Eligibility requirements include:

  • Funds can be used towards the rehabilitation of renter or owner-occupied single-family homes.
  • Applicants MUST be a senior (65-years or older) and/or a person who is disabled.
  • Property must be clear of all liens/judgments that would place the property in jeopardy.
  • Applicant's household income cannot exceed 80% Area Median Income (AMI). CITY OF CHICAGO AMI CHART!
  • Chicago communities of West Pullman, Washington Heights, Roseland, East Morgan Park, Riverdale, Pullman, South Chicago, Hegewisch, Eastside, South Suburban ( Dolton, Riverdale, Calumet City, Blue Island, Evergreen Park, Harvey, Robbins, Hazel Crest and Calumet Park) neighborhoods and East of Cicero in the City of Chicago.  Please see the Screener map below to check eligibility.



Ineligible projects under this program include:

  • Commercial properties
  • Mixed-use properties
  • Repairs that are not related to or connected to accessibility improvements. 

Application Information

The following application materials are required:


  • Pre-Application Form
  • Valid Government-Issued Identification
  • Proof of Property Ownership or Lease Agreement
  • Proof of Income (i.e. last 60-days of pay stubs, or annual social security statement)


HAP Program and application materials will open on Monday, January 3, 2022.
