The 119th Street Corridor plan is a community-based process to develop a vision and implementation plan for economic and community development along the 119th Street Corridor between I 57 and Union Street in the West Pullman neighborhood. This project is funded by the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) for the City of Chicago in association with the Far South Community Development Corporation in partnership with Teska Associates, Jones Lang LaSalle, Prism Engineering and TNK Consulting. Maple Park Micro Recovery Program
The Micro Market Recovery Program is a neighborhood stabilization initiative targeting small geographic areas that are experiencing higher-than-normal problems with foreclosures.
In each area, the City of Chicago is working with sister agencies and community partners to re-occupy vacant residential buildings and to help existing residents remain in their homes.
The City of Chicago through its NSP program and TIF-Purchase Rehab initiative has subsidy money available for owner-occupants ready to buy or rehab a home in an MMRP area. The City also has forgivable loans available to help current owner-occupants make home repairs.

SSA 45 in the Roseland area of the Far South Side of Chicago needed a way to convey tell their story. “Why Halsted” was the solution – a marketing piece that could tie the economic strengths of the area to the history and culture of the community.
With a new logo, concise writing, and unique design, the brochure lays out the numbers for the corridor and the case for retailers, businesses, and homebuyers to invest in the area. With 32,000 cars a day on Halsted, direct access to I -57, and nearby attractions such as the Ray and Joan Kroc Community Center and Roseland Medical District, the corridor has much to offer.
Following the creation of the marketing piece, Teska landscape architects were recruited to design identity signs and business directory kiosks that embrace and celebrate the Why Halsted logo.
The Special Services authorized hereby include but are not limited to Maintenance and Beautification Activities, Coordinated Marketing and Promotional Activities, Parking and Transit Programs, Area Strategic Planning, Business Retention/Recruitment Initiatives, Building Facade Improvements, Security Services and other Technical Assistance Activities to Promote Community and Economic Development. The Special Services shall be in addition to services provided to and by the City of Chicago generally.
Our mission it to encourage stability and development within the business district and community by promoting business improvement programs, economic development initiatives, safety programs and a clean environment.
Special Service Areas, known as Business Improvement Districts or BIDs in other cities, are local tax districts that fund expanded services and programs through a localized property tax levy within contiguous areas. The enhanced services and programs are in addition to those currently provided through the City.SSA-funded projects typically include but are not limited to: public way maintenance and beautification; district marketing and advertising; business retention/attraction, special events and promotional activities; auto and bike transit; security; façade improvements; and other commercial and economic development initiatives.
