The area first developed as an industrial corridor with major employers which included Ingersoll, International Harvester, Dutch Boy Paints, and Libby. Residential areas of West Pullman were originally developed as a way for factory workers from Pullman to buy their homes.

The 119th Street Corridor Plan has set a community-driven process to develop strategies and implementation steps to build on the strengths of the Corridor and make improvements to anchor economic development, housing stability, and community identity and character.

TIFS DISTRICTS 107th & 119th and I-57

The 119th/Halsted TIF district was created to provide coordinated redevelopment of vacant land, obsolete buildings and aging public ways within a once-thriving portion of the West Pullman community and smaller parts of the Roseland and Morgan Park communities. Increment from the 183-acre district is intended to foster the recreation of a viable and diverse business district along Halsted Street, specifically at 115 and 119th streets, while promoting the development of affordable, rental and for-sale housing along portions of 119th and 120th Street.
